One of
the most common questions from newcomers to
Religious Science is, “Is Religious Science a
Christian teaching based on the Bible?” For
years I answered that question by saying, “more
than some, less than others.” Then there was
the “textbook” answer…….
Is the
Science of Mind a Christian
teaching based on the Bible?
One of the most common
questions from newcomers to Religious Science
is, “Is Religious Science a Christian teaching
based on the Bible?” For years I answered that
question by saying, “more than some, less than
others.” I would qualify my answer by
explaining that we are a Christian teaching
insofar as we teach the teachings of Jesus. And
while we use the Bible as a source of
inspiration, we do not base our religious
authority in it as does mainstream
Christianity. Nor do we defer to it as the
inerrant word of God. Other times, I answered
with what is presented on page 67-68 of The
Science of Mind: “In many respects, the
Christian Bible is the greatest book ever
written, and does truly point a way to eternal
values. But it is only ONE explanation and
cannot be considered the ONLY light on
religion, for there are many others whose
combined teachings weave the story of Truth
into a complete and unified pattern.”
Through my work with verifying the Swedish
translation of The Science of Mind, I
subsequently came to the conclusion that
Religious Science is a Christian teaching more
than it is non-denominational or anything else.
I say that because the basis of our teaching,
The Science of
Mind textbook, is almost
exclusively based on Ernest Holmes’
comprehension of Biblical principles.
